OURA’s annual conference has returned to in-person for 2023! Hosted at the Marriott Downtown at CF Toronto Eaton Centre from February 15 — 17, the conference will include keynote speakers, sessions, workshops and roundtables from experts in the University Registrarial field. Our tracks for this year’s conference include:

  • Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
  • Innovation
  • Health and Wellness
  • Evolution of the Office
  • Professional Practice

Flexibility is available for an affordable price — you can either attend the whole conference, or one or two days based on your institute’s budget. Mingle with peers in your field and network with the Registrar community. We look forward to seeing you at our 2023 conference.

Kate Davis
Kate DavisConnectivity Expert | Humour in the Workplace | Work–Life Balance
Kate Davis has the unique ability to find humour in any situation and offers creative solutions to defuse frustrations in both the workplace and at home. A hit comedian, who has opened for the likes of Seth Meyers, Bill Clinton, and Barbara Walters, Davis’ generous insight and hilarious presence is a powerful combination that helps organizations empower their staff with effective tools for managing stress and sustaining motivation.

Theatrically trained in England, Davis went from a successful run on the Canadian stage to the many stages of motherhood, before she found her passion for comedy. Now she is a 12-time Canadian Comedy Awards nominee, including a nomination for the prestigious Phil Hartman Award, and the star of her own hour-long comedy special on CTV and the Comedy Network. In addition, Davis has appeared on Breakfast Television, Star TV, Toronto 1, Prime, WTN, TVO, and CBC Radio’s The Debaters. She also stars, writes, and produces the hit web series “Best Before”, which won at the Canadian Comedy Awards, and was chosen for “Standup and Pitch” at the Just For Laughs Comedy Pro. In 2018, Davis joined the Debaters Live theatre tour with Live Nation.

On stage, Davis has performed at the Winnipeg Comedy Festival, the Hubcap Comedy Festival, and the Kitchener Waterloo Comedy Festival, while also headlining across the country. During the 2008 season of Last Comic Standing, Davis’ sense of humour endured and carried her into the finals in Canada.

As a writer, Davis has been published in Today’s Parent and Mom and Caregiver magazines. She is also the author of two books, The Breastfeeding Diaries, which won the iParenting media award, and Second Best Mom: Stories, Tips, and Okay Advice. In 2019, Davis released her comedy album, House Arrest.

Ilona Dougherty

Businesses, organizations, and governments looking to succeed in the innovation economy and attract and retain young talent, turn to Ilona Dougherty. Her engaging and insightful presentations draw on neuroscience and developmental psychology to distill the unique abilities of today’s youth and how leaders can best support and engage young talent in their workplace.

Dougherty is an award-winning social innovator and a respected researcher often featured in the media as the co-creator and managing director of the Youth and Innovation Project at the University of Waterloo. She has extensive leadership and governance experience having co-founded and led several organizations. This includes Apathy is Boring, a Canadian non-partisan social enterprise that Dougherty co-founded at the age of 23 to educate youth about democracy and encourage them to vote.

Named one of the “Top 100 Most Powerful Women” in Canada by the Women’s Executive Network in 2015, Dougherty was a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012, a Global Ashoka Fellowship in 2009, and a Yukon Women’s Award at the age of 19. She is currently a PhD student in political science at the University of Waterloo where her research focuses on how policy, strategy, and programs touch the lives of young people.

OURA Conference — 2023 Agenda

The Marriott Downtown at CF Toronto Eaton Centre is the official OURA 2023 conference hotel. The following room rates have been negotiated at the Marriott Downtown at CF Toronto Eaton Centre for single or double occupancy. Note, self-parking rate has been discounted by 50% for OURA attendees (regular is $45.00).

Standard Room (1 king or 2 double beds):   $258.00 per night, CAD + taxes

These rates:

  • are valid during the conference dates as well as three days before and three days after, depending on availability
  • include complimentary basic internet in the guestroom
  • complimentary fitness centre access
  • double Marriott Bonvoy points

Reservations

Guests may also book rooms over the phone by calling the toll-free reservations line at 1-800-905-0667 and mentioning to the agent either the Group Name “OURA Annual Conference” or the Mini Hotel Code “OUI”.

Reservation Policies
The cut-off date for reserving rooms in the OURA room block is Monday, January 23, 2023. Reservation requests received after this date will be based on availability at the hotel’s prevailing rates.

Deposit Policy
All reservations must be accompanied by a first night room deposit or guaranteed with a major credit card.

Cancellation Policy
Individual reservations must be cancelled at least 72 hours prior to the arrival date with no penalty. Any cancellations made after this time will be subject to a late cancellation fee in the amount of 1 night’s room & tax charged to the payment method on file.
